Sonoma County introduces plan for electric car charging stations

Students may soon find themselves plugging in their cars before they dash off to class. Sonoma County released plans to expand the amount of electric vehicle charging stations throughout the area starting as soon as this spring. "Electric vehicles are important for us to be a more sustainable and self-supporting community and county," said Ervand Peterson, professor for the environmental studies and planning department. SOPA, or Stop Online Piracy Act, is a bill introduced into The House on Oct. 26, 2011. It ignited a debate throughout the Internet about intellectual property and the overall future of the cyberspace landscape. Norman Ng dazzles and delights students with “Magic Experience”

When thinking of a magic show, many college students are sometimes skeptical. Norman Ng, however, takes his shows to a whole new level. He has performed in 48 different states during his 20 year career performing live magic shows. Ng visited Sonoma State last week and gave students a truly entertaining performance. Full story

Seawolves drop four straight in Winter Classic

The Sonoma State women's water polo team traveled south this past weekend to play in four matches in the UCSB Winter Invite. The Seawolves lost four straight at the Winter Invite and dropped their overall record to 1-4 and 0-1 in WWPA. The first match of the weekend featured the Seawolves taking on the host team, the Gauchos of UCSB. Full story

University presidential pay now capped

Last Wednesday, the California State University Board of Trustees held a special committee meeting in regard to university presidential salaries. Despite efforts to present the meeting to the public by having it streamed live over the Internet, the proceeding went almost unheard of to Sonoma State students. Full story

Super Bowl XLVI Preview

The year of the rematch continues. Once again the sports world gets to witness another rematch for a championship. We already had the BCS championship which featured SEC foes Alabama and LSU battle it out for the second time in a year. We had Nadal and Djokovic meet once again in the Australian Open final just months after meeting in the US Open Final. Full story

Multicultural Center still lacks a director

The search is on again for a new Multicultural Center director, despite funding being frozen briefly at the beginning of January. The MCC is expected to hire a director within the next month, if not sooner, according to Gustavo Flores, director of admissions. Full story

Sonoma County approves $84 million to expand county airport

An $84 million project to expand the Charles M Schulz-Sonoma County Airport in order to be able to increase the amount of daily commercial flights received a unanimous endorsement from Sonoma County's Board of Supervisors on Jan. 10. The County Planning Commission voted 4-1 in December to approve the project. Full story

Women’s basketball improve win streak to three games

Over the weekend, Sonoma States women's basketball team pushed their winning streak to their best of the season, three in a row. Two road games against rivals Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus over the weekend helped push the Seawolves record to 8-10 overall and 7-8 in the CCAA. Full story

“The Iron Lady:” a daring portal into the troubled mind of Margaret Thatcher

It is no surprise that Meryl Streep won a Golden Globe for her portrayal as the first female British Prime Minister in the film, "The Iron Lady." Through her character, she exposes Margaret Thatcher as suffering from psychosis. Most noteworthy is the clever subtext of the film displaying Thatcher's relationship with her deceased soulmate. The makings of an “Oklahoma!” star

If the quality of a production is directly related to the talent and dedication of its cast and crew, there are definite high hopes for the upcoming Sonoma State musical, "Oklahoma!" which debuts Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:30. The show, which originally debuted on Broadway on March 31, 1943, was immensely popular and ran for an unheard of 2,112 performances. Full story
