Now that one of the most romantic holidays of the year is behind us, it's time to chuck the fairy tale crap out the window and focus on reality. Like asking the tough question, "What does it really mean to be married?" The Sonoma State Center for Performing Arts attempts to answer that very question.
Stage Director Adrian Elfenbaum and Musical director Lynne Morrow have worked for months to bring the ground-breaking Tony Award-winning musical "Company" to life. The musical, written by George Furth and composer Stephen Sondheim, received seven Tony Awards in 1970 including Best Musical.
"Company" is a vignette of one-act scenes surrounding the plight of 35-year-old Bobby (Diego Garcia) and his attempts to confront his inability to commit to a long-term relationship.
He visits the homes of his married friends: Harry (Noah Zepponi), Sarah (Elise Siegel), Peter (Garret Riley), Susan (Vanessa Begley), David (Ted Smith), Jenny, (Katie Foster), Paul (Daniel Corpus), Amy (Kelsey Karl), Larry (Jon Hakala) and Joanne (Meghan Howard Hakala). And rendezvous with his multiple girlfriends: April (Brenda Weaver), Kathy (Fionna Lane) and Marta (Skye LaFontaine).
In the end, Bobby comes to understand the difference between love and marriage and the similarities between sorry and grateful.
