Looking for something new in Rohnert Park? Let's face it there's not much to do in Rohnert Park besides going to Scandia, hanging out at the local bars or just going out to eat at In-N-Out Burger. However, there may be hope for the students of Sonoma State University. The Tradewinds, a local bar in Cotati is most likely to become a new hotspot for Sonoma State students, especially for the 21 and up crowd.

Every second Sunday out of the month, this bar holds a free event called the "Fluidity Showcase." As college students we all can appreciate the word "free," especially when it comes to events like these. The "Fluidity Showcase" is a night that includes spoken word artists, poets, acoustic guitarists, singers henna tattoo artists, a live painter and to top it all off, comedy.

This past Sunday, comedian "Steph" Sanders rocked and brought down the house with his stand up comedy.  He has appeared on ‘90s television show Moesha, Black Entertainment Television's Comic View also known as BET and can be seen in a handful of movies. For this event there is no dress code or cover fee, all they ask for is for you to come in, relax and enjoy a great evening. For this event doors open at 8:30 p.m. and starts promptly at 9 p.m.

The Tradewinds bar is not the only one trying to step it up in Rohnert Park. Latitude Island Grill located on Golf Course also offers live music and entertainment for their guests as well.  Whether you are on a date or want to enjoy a family meal, you will find this place to be among the best restaurants in Sonoma County.  Not only will you enjoy great food but you will also enjoy a variety of smooth jazz music.

Saturday, May 8 you can catch Patrick Maier on the stage at Latitude restaurant. Patrick Maier is known to be one of the Bay Area's premier musicians. He delivers versatility in his music that covers all types of music from swing and blues to rock and funk. If you are more into the guitar aspect of music Rich Flynn has you covered.

Flynn is a guitarist and current band member of Finding Stella. He incorporates music from a wide range of musical eras, from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s up until today. His music influences include Marvin Gaye, Keith Urban, Pink Floyd, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and many more. Like what you see so far, check him out at Latitude on Saturday, May 15.

Want to get away from Rohnert Park to enjoy great music? Drive down to Coco's Club in Petaluma. Coco's Club provides entertainment for everyone with a different theme of music every night which is sure to bring a diverse crowd. On Wednesday nights they start things off slow and smooth with live music with sounds of jazz and the blues.  To jump start your weekend check out their theme on Saturday nights and make it a girls night out as you dance the night away to the beats of merengue, reggaeton and hip hop. They also offer drink specials on certain nights to keep the good times rolling.

Like the saying goes, you can't expect things to come to you, you have to go out and look for them. Don't spend Saturday nights doing the same routine of ordering pizza and watching your favorite re-runs of  "Grey's Anatomy." Call up your friends and hit the road for a night of music and comedy.
