The Sonoma State men's soccer team is heading full force into the 2010 season as they battled the St. Mary's Gaels in the final exhibition match before the opening of the regular season on Sept. 4.
The Seawolves, unfortunately fell to the Division I Gaels 4-1 in the hard-fought match.
It was not until the 25th minute into the match that the Gaels' forward Emmanuel Sarabia connected for a net-finder that slipped passed Sonoma State goalie, Juan Sosa.
The Gaels commited a barrage of shots against the Seawolves, and eventually went into the half leading the Seawolves 3-0, shooting the ball passed Sosa on a penalty kick.
Cam Vickers of Sonoma State came up with the lone goal in the 72nd minute for the Seawolves on an assist from Brandon Dela Cruz.
The Seawolves look to Sept. 4 for their regular season start against Fresno Pacific, and return to Seawolf Field on Sept. 7 to host Dominican for the regular season home opener.
The Seawolves gained some valuable exposure as many different players saw the field, including all three Seawolf goalies whom each saw time at goalkeeper.
The Seawolves are picked to take the CCAA title for the upcoming year, and to continue their dominant reign on the soccer field.
