Sonoma State prevailed in last week’s softball action against Notre Dame de Namur, coming away with three out of four victories against the Argonauts, leaving Sonoma with a 4-2 overall record on the season thus far.
After a rain-ridden commencement to the highly anticipated season for the lady Seawolves, Sonoma State shined on the offensive and defensive front, outscoring the Argonauts 17-1 in Wednesday’s double-header held at Notre Dame de Namur’s home field.
A stellar defensive fight was driven by freshman Samantha Lipperd in the first game on Wednesday, as she threw a no-hitter to shut-out the Argonauts 9-0.
Lipper’s fine pitching performance marked the first no-hitter since Apr. 7, 2001, and the fourteenth in Sonoma softball history.
Sonoma’s offense also showcased their ability to dominate opposing pitchers as they erupted for nine runs, and winning in five innings per the 8-run rule.
Simone Barndalise led the offense with a perfect 4-4 day with four RBIs and a run scored.
Sonoma carried their momentum into game two, as they carried out a 8-1 victory, sweeping the Argonauts at their home-field.
Fearing another two-game whomping, the Argonauts struck first in Saturday’s game one of the double-header in Rohnert Park, where NDNU took the eventual extra-inning victory from the Seawolves 4-1.
In the latter portion of Saturday’s Valentine’s Day double-header, love was not all that filled the air, as the Seawolves had an explosive first innings, tagging the ball for nine runs.
Kayla Ledford cleared the bases for a three-run double in her second plate appearance of the inning for the Seawolves.
The Seawolves later tacked on two more runs in the third and fourth innings on their way to a 11-1 victory.
Danielle D’Eccliss and Skylynn Myers each contributed their portion from the plate, as they both came away with a pair of hits and RBIs, as well as Rochelle Vanyi, who ended the day with two RBI’s.
The Seawolves commence CCAA play on Friday as they travel to battle Cal State Dominguez Hills for a five-game series.
