A student-athlete is not a title easily claimed.  Many hours, much dedication and passion are just the undertones that are required to excel in collegiate sports.

Sonoma State has had  multiple athletes recognized for their outstanding achievements on the field over the past seasons.

The baseball program at SSU has proved to harvest quality players over the years under Coach Goelz's order, including three of the most recent Seawolves to get drafted into the pros.

Tilman Pugh, a redshirt whom sat out the 2010 season was drafted second in the NCAA Division II west region by the New York Mets, only second to his teammate, Scott Alexander.

Alexander, Sonoma's left-handed hurler was picked up by the Kansas City Royals.  Alexander led the Seawolves in strikeouts with 70 on the year, and held the opponents to a batting average of .209.

Another Seawolf to enter into the never level of competition is Tyler Hess, a hard throwing right-hander from Alamo, Calif., was a 19th round draft pick by the Atlanta Braves.

SSU baseball's, Kyle Jones and Max Shupe were also recognized for their duties on the field as they were named to Second Team All-CCAA Honors, while Alexander was also named to All-CCAA Honorable Mention.

Jones and Shupe together constitute for much of Sonoma State's offense, as they both rallied in explosive numbers in the past season.

The Seawolves also have produced excellent golfers over the past years, namely Ryan Carter, a former  golfer for the SSU men's golf team.

Carter recently qualified for the U.S. Amatuer Championship, one of the most prestigious golf championship tournaments in the nation.

While at SSU, Carter was a driving force behind Sonoma State men's golf, and their national championship in 2009.

Jeremy Wendelken shot a two under an overall 286 in the 84th Washington State Golf Association Men's Amateur Championship.
